Hello My Dear Reader, I have an absolutely riveting story to tell you about my Multi Millionaire friend Gary Jackson. It starts a few years ago when Gary was just like millions of others around the world – an employee with a 9 to 5. At the time, (again like most people) Gary wished he could break away from being an employee and have his own business. But unlike most people, Gary did something about it.   From virtually nothing, he’s amazingly turned himself into a self made Millionaire. But not just once – several times over! Now, I also know other people who’ve had their own business and failed, or at best not been particularly successful.   I’ve chatted to many of them, and we’ve all wondered why Gary had such runaway success, when others didn’t. One thing we ALL agreed on was that we’d LOVE to know if there was something unique or different that Gary did that made him become so successful, so one day when I had the chance I asked him.   Exactly how did you become so successful Gary? What’s your secret? I have to admit, his answer SHOCKED me. This is what he said. . . “I had some experience of business as an employee, but not much.   I always yearned to be my own boss so I read a lot of books about business and I chatted with people I knew, to learn more. Before long I had really BIG ideas! Eventually the day came when I took the plunge and started my own business. I had some moderate success, but despite my best efforts, for a long time I really struggled. Boy did I struggle! Let me explain. It seemed that whenever I got ahead, something would mysteriously come long and take it away from me. I seemed to rise a bit and fall a bit and then fall a bit more. I could never seem to get out of the rut. During this time, I kept a journal (you don’t have to do this) and after 3 years of rising, falling and falling, rising, falling and falling, I actually considered giving up entirely. One day I started reading through my journal. It was quite illuminating to read my own personal history… but then I noticed something. A pattern. There were ‘things’ running alongside my rises and falls, as if these things were making the rises and falls happen.   I wondered if this was just a co-incidence, or if these things really were connected. So what I did was to take all the things that seemed to be making the rises happen… and make sure I did them… and looked out for the things that seemed to be making the falls happen… and purposefully did NOT do them. At the same time I carried on keeping my journal and just 7 months later I had created assets worth £1. 2 million (relatively easy once you know these little secrets). At this time of writing, I am well on the way to £50 million and I have never experienced a fall since. I’ve created 27 ‘Key Rules’ – my own Millionaire Secrets – from the notes I made in my journal and I’ve validated everything both by rigorous testing and honing and by asking other Millionaires what they thought to them. Each time I asked a Millionaire or Billionaire about them, they always smiled knowingly and said something like “It took me a while to figure that out. And as soon as I did, off I went!” Now, most people believe that success in business and becoming a multi Millionaire is all about what product(s) you have. Well, they are right upto a point. But, they would probably be surprised to learn that just as important is your BEHAVIOUR. If your mindset is ‘wrong’ then you will NEVER make it. I’m telling you now, these 27 ‘Rules’ are what you have to figure out in order to become a Millionaire or Billionaire. Here’s an example for you. . . Your Parking Brake Yes, your parking brake.   Not the one in your car but the one in your mind. That’s right, you have a parking brake in your mind which stops you from moving forward. It’s ‘on’ when something you are about to do seems scary or painful… which is a good thing if. . . what you’re about to do is to jump into the path of a speeding lorry. In other words, this ‘parking brake’ is there for your own good. Problem is, this handy mechanism can also prevent us from taking actions that bring about outcomes we desperately want in our life. An example of this ‘parking brake’ in action can be seen if you talk to someone in a sauna about jumping into the Dunk Pool. The Dunk Pool is the freezing cold pool you’re supposed to jump into to cool off. It’s supposed to be very good for the skin and makes the body release feel good chemicals. But just mentioning the Dunk Pool to people in the sauna will make them say “Ooo Nooo!”. Sometimes they will shudder at the thought. Even if you paid them to jump in they would stand there for hours dipping their toes in, then half their left foot… it would be comical. Their parking brake is on. The point I’m making is, it’s only the thought of doing it that puts them off actually doing it. They don’t actually know what it’s like. They’ve never done it before. They don’t know that if you just sling yourself in, it’s a split second of shock followed by a great deal of pleasure followed by some very valuable health benefits which I won’t go into here. I always jump in the Dunk Pool and just before I do, I NEVER think about the split second of shock… if I do then I start making excuses not to do it… which means I won’t get the pleasure and the health benefits (By the way, if you have a heart condition I do not suggest you do it). What I DO is think about the buzz I get afterwards. The feeling of exhilaration, the release of ‘feel-good’ hormones and the satisfaction of knowing I’m helping improve my health. It’s great! APPLY IT TO EVERYTHING YOU DO! The same thing applies to everything else you have to do in life. If you have a load of washing up to do… and you think about the fact that you have to get off your butt and sort out the plates and fill up the sink and wash each dish and knife and fork and scold your hands in the hot water… you won’t do it. The parking brake will be on. If you only think about how good it will be when they’re washed up and all put away… before you know it, they will be done. If you think about going to the gym, getting changed, seeing someone you don’t like there, pushing each individual weight, puffing and panting… you won’t go. Your parking brake will be on. If, however, you think about how great you will feel afterwards… the sense of achievement and all the other good stuff like a better looking body etc then you will go. Your parking brake will come off and there’ll be no stopping you. APPLYING IT TO BUSINESS Now. . . to make money in business, we have to, dare I say it, DO things. These things can be off putting. They can seem scary and painful to do. But the thing is, they’re not painful at all. We just think (or imagine) they will be more painful than not doing them. So we leave them to the last minute. We procrastinate. The parking brake is on… and we only just get by. If we could just take off the parking brake then we could build momentum and start generating a lot more than we need… the surplus we generate can be used to generate MUCH more than we need. This increasing surplus can be used to increase our income further and eventually we can become rich. But if our parking brake is on then we only do just enough and we never generate the surplus needed to become rich… so we don’t. Okay. We now know the cause of procrastination: The thought of actually doing something. We now know the price of procrastination: Only ever hovering just above broke. But how exactly do we ‘take off the parking brake’? Well, until recently I didn’t realise how I was doing it. The parking brake just seemed to come off when it was good and ready to come off. But what I was actually doing was picturing the outcome… like we discussed earlier remember? As soon as I consciously pictured the outcome instead of actually doing the thing that led to the outcome, it was like I was taken control of and given the power to effortlessly complete the task without much thought. My parking brake came off. But I soon realised that I wasn’t just picturing the outcome, I was also feeling the pleasure the outcome would give me. So we now have two things. . . 1. A picture of the outcome – What it would be like when the task is done 2. The pleasure you feel when it’s done HOW TO DO THIS ANY TIME AND EVERY TIME Now I wanted to devise a method of creating those two ‘ingredients’ at will so that I could take my parking brake off. . . at will. I came up with the following method. . . 1. Sit quietly and close your eyes 2. Select a task you need to complete or a goal you want to achieve 3. Ask yourself: What does it feel like to have not done it? – Spend about 30 seconds feeling how it feels to have not done it. 4. Now ask yourself: What would it be like to have done it? – This is what you would see if it was completed e. g. the picture of the outcome. Spend 30 seconds picturing this outcome. Repeat the question if necessary. 5. Next ask yourself: How would I feel when the task/goal is completed? – This is the pleasure you would feel when the task/goal is done. How good it would feel. Spend 30 seconds feeling this. Again, repeat the question if necessary. 6. Open your eyes 7. Make a little conscious effort to complete the task (In other words, prepare to begin the task) That’s my method of taking the parking brake off and if you spend 30 seconds on each question you will find yourself completing task after task after task with minimal effort and you’ll also find that the quality of your work is shockingly better too.
